You Can Stop Biting Your Nails, Here’s How!

By Kevin Hamill Are you tired of being self-conscious about your hands and nails? I know exactly what you’re going through because I’ve been there. Did you notice I said, “I’ve been there”. That’s right, I have finally quit biting my nails. I never thought it was possible, but after years of trying to figure it out, I did it. As I mentioned, it took me years to “nail” down how to quit this habit. I had several failed attempts, too many to count. I found myself always hiding my nails and truly embarrassed about them. I was even envious of people with nice nails because I was so uncomfortable with my own. Being uncomfortable about my nails forced me to really think about the problem. I tried all the cover-ups and distractions such as bad tasting nail crme and chewing gum. However, nothing seemed to work on a permanent basis. I would kick the habit for a couple weeks to a month, but I would relapse and be back to square one in no time. In order to stop this habit on a permanent basis, you have to get to the root of the problem. All the cover-ups and distractions help alleviate the desire to bite and make quitting the habit somewhat easier, but they are not a permanent solution. For a permanent solution, you must ask yourself the following question: In what situations do I sub-consciously start to bite my nails? All you nail-biters out there know what I mean! You bring your fingers to your mouth without even thinking about it. For me, as it is for most people, it was stress situations causing me to do this. I was also guilty when I was thinking, panicked, nervous and worried. As you can tell, this covers a lot of situations and feelings, so I was biting my nails a lot. Even with all these feelings causing me to bite my nails, I have quit this habit. I did it by being conscious of these causes and therefore my emotions. In other words, when I was getting nervous, or panicked, I would be mindful of the situation and somewhat control my emotions. I would realize that I was in this emotional state. With the thought in the back of my mind not to bite my nails, I wouldn’t do it. This is the key to quitting this habit. This is the only permanent solution. Try this and you will be pleasantly surprised with the results. A spin-off of this method is being generally more relaxed and in control. I found myself being able to handle pressure situations better because I was more in control, not only of my nail biting, but of my entire emotional state. The animals that are usually eaten for protein, what do they subsists on? Substances of the Plant Kingdom for example: cows live on grass exclusively. 2. 98% of the human population is sweet toothed…which shows that carbohydrates are our main need contrary to popular belief. 3. People have fasted on water only for several days and were actually stronger for the process! 8. Fruits and green leaves give you sufficient protein: e.g. the Banana, Dates, Avocadoes, Olives, Cabbage, Lettuce, Durian, Young Coconuts and even the Apple. Exactly or a little more than what you need at a given time. 9. Based on research, the need for amino acids is highly exaggerated as only 16% or our body is Protein. Pure protein is primarily Nitrogen (N) with some Oxygen and Hydrogen and Carbon. We all know that we get a large share of our Oxygen and Hydrogen need from the air. Since we are able to utilize and assimilate a large amount of our needs of these elements, we are able to build the Nitrogen into our body as protein. This process is done by natural bacteria action that is capable of converting it to our use. People who smoke though cannot pick up Nitrogen from the air so easily but might still get enough from proper foods. Although for your well-being, cessation of tobacco usage is mandatory. 10. Research has been done on the diet of the aboriginal tribes living in the Mountains of Hagen. Their diet consisted of 80 % Sweet potatoes. The rest consisted of fruits and green leaf vegetables. Their daily consumption of protein was around 9.92 g. Meanwhile, eliminated in their fecal matter was a protein of around 15 times more of what was ingested. This phenomenon illustrates the protein synthesis illustrated above. Definitely cutting back on the wrong kinds of Carbohydrates such as Cakes, Confectioneries, Bread, Polished rice and the like will be mandatory for weight-loss, but replacing them with high protein foods is- just as from the points above-unnecessary and actually harmful for overall health and fitness. So what should we eat? Simple, Raw and properly cooked Fruits, Roots and Leafy Vegetables. Make sure to keep good documentation on employees, such as job responsibilities. You should have performance reviews and save copies of their evaluations. Your company likely has a discipline policy, and it needs to be applied consistently and have warnings documented. Consulting an employment attorney before the termination can be a good way to help insulate you from legal troubles. They can also help you prepare for a discrimination lawsuit if one is likely to occur. Seven Simple Tips About Child Custody Issues

I did graduate from college with a degree in Communications, however, that does not qualify me to offer professional legal advice. If you read this article, remember you must consult an attorney to get help for your specific situation. There are numerous, diverse issues surrounding legal custody of your children. Laws vary from state to state. Each individual situation is different depending on your personal circumstances, such as: marital status; employment; income; other financial resources; family support; relationship with other parent; past history of abuse or domestic violence; arrest record; and past role in children’s life. The following ideas are only some suggestions to consider if you are fighting for custody of your children or if you fear that you may have to battle the father/mother of your children for custody. My first suggestion comes from my own terrifying experience. 1 - Don’t think you will never have to fight for custody of your children. Don’t assume you know the father/mother of your children so well, that you have no fear of being forced to fight this man or woman to retain your parental rights. Don’t foolishly trust everything the father/mother of your children tells you. If they were planning to file for custody of your children, do you really think they’d let you know in advance? Obviously if they gave you with any type of a warning, you would have time to obtain your own lawyer and try to beat them at their own game. So of course, they’re going to lie about their intentions if they’re planning to seek custody of your children. And they’re going to try to make their lies sound so sincere, so convincing and so honest that you could easily be deceived. The only advice I have about how to tell the difference between a lie and the truth is - go with your gut instinct. If you have any reason to believe they may be thinking of filing for custody of your children, follow your heart. If you have any doubt about how honest they’re being with you, don’t wait around to see what happens next. Time is critical, so don’t delay taking action to protect yourself if you feel threatened or mislead in any way. 2 - Be very careful about who you trust with important information. You may be shocked to find out how quickly word travels from what you tell your friends or some of your family members to the other parent’s friends or family members. People love to gossip. Rumors spread like wildfire with little regard for you or your children. The only way to extinguish flaming tales of your tragic situation is to keep your mouth shut. Don’t share your side of the story with anyone unless you are willing to bet your life and your future with your children on their loyalty to you. When you’re hurt by the actions of the father/mother of your children, it can be very difficult to not talk about your feelings of disbelief, anger, anxiety and devastation, but it can hurt you more in the long run to share your emotions with even your closest friends and family. You never know who will repeat what you say to whom and there’s nothing worse than being stabbed in the back by someone you thought you could trust. This may be the most expensive, bitter battle of your life. Don’t risk the outcome by revealing significant factors of your defense to more than a few of your closest friends or family members, who you trust with all your heart. The stakes are high in any custody case. Gambling in this situation can reduce your credibility, destroy your reputation, ruin your defense strategy and significantly decrease your chances of winning in court. 3 - Hire a lawyer. You do need one. You’re selling yourself short if you don’t seek legal advice. Unless you have incredible knowledge of the child custody laws in your state, if you are not represented by an attorney, you will probably be manipulated, intimidated and mislead by the attorney hired by the father/mother of your children. Lawyers are not cheap. Hourly rates vary from $100 to $300 an hour. Be prepared to pay anywhere from $200 to $500 just for an initial consultation, which is the first step in finding a lawyer to represent you. Once you share your side of the story with an attorney, they should tell you what they believe the chances are for you to prevail, what their strategy would be to defend you, and how much they will require as a retainer fee. Retainer fees can range from $500 to $5,000 for a really good lawyer. You must pay this money up front before they will take actions to represent you. This fee is usually put into an account that your attorney uses to fund your defense. Each phone call, office visit, fax correspondence, conference call with other attorney, review of your message on voice mail, etc. costs you money. The attorney deducts these costs from the retainer fee. 4 - Seek free legal advice if you cannot afford to pay for an attorney. If you cannot afford a lawyer, most states have free legal services available for people, who qualify for this type of assistance based on their income. If you have time to look for a lawyer, one of the best ways to find a good attorney, is by asking friends, family, business associates - people with knowledge in this field - people you respect and trust. What you hear by word of mouth will probably give you more honest insight into a lawyer’s ability than any advertisement claiming to offer the best attorneys for your case. If you think you can’t afford to hire an attorney, consider whether you can afford to lose custody of your children. The choice is yours. Where there’s a will, there’s usually a way. You may have to take a bank loan, remortage your house, borrow from friends or family members, sell your favorite toys, cash in savings bonds, withdraw from your retirement account, pawn your diamond ring, or cancel your cable television, cellular phone service, or other little luxuries, but aren’t your children worth making any sacrifice to ensure your future together? 5 - Watch your back. Consider every move you make with extreme caution. You would be surprised how stupid little actions you take can be twisted to appear negative or illegal. Don’t do anything remotely illegal, like: lying on your tax return; taking a job that pays under the table; drinking and driving; associating with people who may be linked to potentially illegal activities or visiting establishments with questionable reputations. Make an extra effort to keep your house clean, free of products containing alcohol, and full of items essential for proper feeding, bathing, teaching, and caring for your children. You never know who is watching you or when you may get a knock at the door from the local Child Welfare authorities, who received an anonymous report that you’re an unfit parent. If you believe in the “always innocent until proven guilty” concept, you may be disappointed. Better safe than sorry when it’s your children, your reputation, your parenting skills, your mental stability and your life that’s on trial. 6 - Never ever sign anything that your attorney hasn’t read. Better yet only sign documents related to your child custody case in the presence of your attorney. Even though it takes less than a minute to apply your signature to a piece of paper, it can take months to reverse the terms you agreed to be signing a legal document. 7 - Remember no matter how much you’re hurting and regardless of how much you loathe the father/mother of your children, a child custody case is not about you. It’s about your children. It’s about what’s best for them. The court battle and the consequences of the outcome have the potential to hurt your kids more than anyone. 10 Tips for Long Term Weight Loss

By Robert DiMaggio 1. Do some resistive weight training 3 to 4 times a week using short rest periods between sets of 30 to 60 seconds. Work out no longer than 1 hour to keep your anabolic (muscle-building) hormones high and catabolic (muscle-wasting) hormones low. Over-training is a quick way to lose muscle along with fat. Maintaining muscle is the goal, and it will help keep your metabolic rate high so that fat loss continues at a steady pace. Attempt to lose no more than 1 to 1.5 pounds of fat per week. 2. Avoid traditional long duration cardio, instead perform HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) 2-3 times per week on alternating days or after weight training to burn fat and increase metabolic rate. HIIT cardio is best done on alternating days from weight training if possible. 3. Watch what you eat. Beware of low-fat or fat-free products. Typically, these products are loaded with carbohydrates and while you are not getting the fat, you may be getting way too many calories from simple carbohydrates. Avoid simple sugars and eat complex carbohydrates in moderation to reduce insulin output and prevent blood sugar fluctuations. Insulin is the main hormone responsible for storing body fat, and high insulin levels prevent the burning of stored body fat for energy. High-carbohydrate diets are not the optimal way to lose fat while preserving lean muscle. Rely on complex, high-fiber carbohydrates such as oatmeal, lentils and brown rice. Avoid breads, pasta, white rice and other highly processed, low-fiber carbohydrate sources, as well as sweets. As a guide, reduce carbohydrate intake to 0.8 to 1.2 grams per pound of body weight. For example, a 150-pound person would eat between 120 and 180 grams per day of carbohydrates (150 x 0.8 = 120 / 150 x 1.2 = 180). 4. Increase the amount of lean protein you consume daily to increase your metabolic rate, increase anabolic hormones and prevent muscle loss during dieting. Lean muscle mass is the active tissue that burns calories and maintains metabolic rate. The goal is to preserve the active tissue we want while encouraging the body to reduce the tissue (fat) we don’t want. Eat high-quality, low-fat protein sources like skinless chicken, lean red meat and seafood during your weight loss program. High-quality protein supplements may be used when the diet does not yield enough daily protein. 5. Reduce saturated fats whenever possible and replace with polyunsaturated fats such as flax oil and monounsaturated fats such as olive oil and avocados. Polyunsaturated fats are considered “good fats” and should be a part of your diet. Research shows that omega-3 oils from many sources of fish like cod, flounder, haddock, monkfish, perch, red snapper, sea bass, salmon and tuna help improve health and fat loss. Essential fatty acids (EFA) are required for optimum health and fatty acid metabolism. Avoiding “good fats” is a sure way to sabotage a fat-loss diet and degrade your health. 6. Drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water a day to prevent dehydration and help liberate fat stores to be burned as energy. Water intake is often cited as the most underrated and overlooked part of fat loss. 7. Eat fibrous vegetables to increase transit time of food, improve digestion and improve weight loss. Increasing fiber intake from vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower and other raw vegetables adds fiber, minerals and vitamins with very few calories. They add bulk to the diet while reducing appetite. 8. Spread food intake over 5 to 6 meals per day. Distributing your food throughout the day will improve nutrient absorption, prevent blood sugar fluctuations and decrease fat-storing hormones and fat-storing enzymes. Simply spreading the same number of calories over 5 to 6 small meals per day rather than the standard 3 meals per day will improve fat loss due to the above effects on blood sugar, hormones and fat-storing enzymes. 9. Avoid alcohol (or keep it to a minimum) while you’re dieting. Alcohol contains nearly 7 calories per gram, and is easily metabolized and stored as fat. When you consume alcohol with a meal, your body will metabolize the alcohol first. The rest of the calories and the excess alcohol calories inevitably will be stored as fat. Alcohol is generally regarded as empty carbohydrate calories because you get no other nutritional benefit as you would from the vitamins, minerals and fiber that you get from the carbohydrates in fruits and vegetables. 10. Be snack smart. When you must have a snack, make a smart choice. Avoid sugary or fatty snacks like chips and soda, crackers, nuts, frozen yogurt and so on. Instead, try some air-popped popcorn (no butter or salt) or a slice of lean meat like turkey. When you space your meals to 5 or 6 a day, snacking becomes less important to you. Check the nutritional panels on your snacks for sugars and fats, remembering that fat-free does not mean calorie-free, and remember, excess carbohydrates in your diet will be stored as fat. Fertilise Your Soil The Natural Way With Burrowing Earthworms!

More recently, the successful Edam project that transformed a Cornish quarry into a centre of horticultural excellence introduced garden worms to help their soil. How do worms work? Worms live below ground but come to the surface to eat at night. The process of moving up and down, up and down, aerates the soil, helps drainage, pulls fallen leaves down to the lower levels, breaks up clay soil and binds sandy soil. Worms also produce worm cast a highly nutritious compost containing growth-promoting substances sometime known as black gold. This compost plays an essential role in feeding and maintaining the soil. In fact worms take the hard work out of gardening! Unfortunately worms are now less abundant in our soil. Overuse of weed killers and insect ides, intensive farming and the arrival of the predatory flatworm have all taken their toil. But you can add worms to your soil. Instructions for adding worms to your soil: Mark the areas where you plan to add the earthworms to your garden. In open soil the holes should be no more than 2 metres apart. Under trees the correct distance is half way between the trunk and the edge of the branches. 1. Dig a hole about 23cm (9) deep and 15cm (6) wide. The earthworms are best added to the soil early in the morning or at least before mid day to give them a chance to settle down 2. Place a handful of bedding into the hole 3. Add a handful of worms (approximately 50 worms) to the hole 4. Cover this with another handful of bedding and then mix in the original soil 5. If you have bedding left over place it on top of the spot where you have added the worms. 6. Add water but do not waterlog. Continue this process until all the earthworms have been added to the soil You have now introduced the earthworms to their new home and it is a good idea to leave them undisturbed for a couple of weeks.
